Summer blasts off with a lot of variety this week

There is a little something for everyone this week from folk to rap and pretty much everything else in between.
 Things start slowly on Wednesday at the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Spencer Jo and the Wood Sprites, June 20.

If you miss that,  Spencer Jo, best known for being part of Celtic punk act Rumrunner, will be at the Slice, June 21 with Fire Next Time and  Red Rum Triumph.

He rocked the roof off the Tongue N Groove last year with his own style of gritty  ZZ Top style rocking blues. Along the same lines, local blues rock band Zojo Black will be back at the Slice, June 22.


Rap fans won’t want to miss Eminem protégé Obie Trice, who performs at Club 54, June 22.

 He caught the ear of Eminiem back in 2001 , giving him a plug on D12’s  “Devil’s Night”  album and took him under his wing, producing his debut  CD “Cheers” in 2003. Detroit rapper and Eminem protégé Obie Trice is happy to be back with his latest CD “Bottom’s  Up,” the long awaited follow-up to his sophomore CD “Second Rounds.”


He performs at Club 54, June 24 with his own protégé Patience, plus F-Bomb, Sin Sane and Strong V. Tickets cost $25 for the show which begins at 9 p.m.

 For a more country music fans, Rancho Deluxe will be at the Slice June 23 and Karen Romanchuk plays the Mocha Cabana both Friday and Saturday. Oakville, Ontario songwriter Sarah Burton also returns to Lethbridge her more upbeat country CD,  “Fire Breather.”
 It is a more upbeat, country rock affair but it explores some familiar themes.


Lethbridge celebrates St.-Jean Baptiste Day as part of Canadian Week on June 22 at the La Cité des Prairies  located  at  2104   6th  Avenue  South.
Lethbridge’s French students will be performing as well including a free performances by community harmony and chorus “Les Clefs de Soleil,”  plus local duo M. Steak mange le Galaxie featuring Antoine Laroche and Skyler Bjorn-Benoit.


 Plus renown Edmonton folkloric songwriter, ventriloquist, dancer and puppeteer Roger Dallaire and his duo will be performing to close of the day at approximately 7 p.m.

A big event happens on Sunday, June  24 when the Geomatic Attic kicks off summer with a blast. Their popular summer parking lot shindig is always a blast. Last year they  brought the Sadies as well as the Sheepdogs and several local acts." This year will be even better.
 Texas songwriter Hayes Carll  will be rocking the block, country/ honkey tonk styles.


 They also have some fantastic souther Alberta talent including  Redrum Triumph, Leeroy Stagger and Calgary bluesman Steve Pineo who will be playing with Jane Hawley, plus Steve Coffey and the Lokels. The music begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are $37.50. The music begins at 5 p.m. The Kinsmen will also be running a charity barbecue with all money being donated to YWCA Harbour House.


 And Elliott Brood returns to the Slice for a two day date,  Monday and Tuesday, June 25-26.
