University of Lethbridge based community radio station CKXU (88.3 F.M.) is celebrating Valentines Day by not only getting sexy and musical, but educational as well, Feb. 14 at the Slice.
As usual, some of your favourite local bands, future favourite bands and bands put together just for this event will twist your favourite love songs.

 CKXU Seven, the Pretty In Kink edition brings local bands Planet Telex, Love Potion #Ice-Nine-point-two, the Dirti Speshuls, the Ruby Plumes, SSNOG and Cosmic Charlie plus DJ Selin will be putting their own strange stamp on a variety of love songs and anti-love songs.
In addition to door prizes, both strange and sexy, there will also be resources available about  safer sexual exploration. There will be representatives for the U of L Campus Women’s Centre, the Lethbridge HIV Connection and more.  
 The event costs $10 It begins at 8 p.m.

Average Joes also has a trio of excellent shows beginning Feb. 15 with Lethbridge’s The Chevelles.

 Canadian classic rockers, Prism, known for many ’70s hits like “Take Me To The Kaptin,” “Spaceship Superstar” and “See Forever Eyes’ play on Feb. 16. Other cool show include the return of Canadian classic rockers Prism, who return to Average Joes, Feb. 16 . Advance tickets are $15. And Damage Inc. A tribute to Metallica play Average Joes on Sunday, Feb. 17. Tickets cost $5.

 The Slice also has a big rock show on Feb. 16 with the Ruby Plumes, DIRT, the The Yeah Dads and Aida. Admission is five dollars.

 There is a big hip hop show at Studio 54, Feb. 15 with the Heavy Metal Kings: Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz. The Fallen Ones, Rise, Spartans and DJ Fuze will also be performing. Tickets cost $25 in advance. The show begins at 9 p.m.

For something completely opposite to that, the Tenors are in town, Feb. 12 at the Enmax Centre. The Canadian Tenors  aka Fraser Walters, Clifton Murray, Victor Micalleff and Remegio Pereira have performed on the Oprah Winfrey show with Celine Dion, for  Queen Elizabeth during her Diamond Jubilee at Windsor Castle as well as at the 2011 Emmy Awards and the opening ceremonies  of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. They grew up on rock music but sing a variety of different type of songs including spirituals and world music, plus reinterpret top pop hits. Tickets cost between $65-$115.
And don’t forget about the jazz jam, Feb. 13 at the Slice. It begins at approximately 9 p.m. There is no charge to get up and play, or just sit and listen to talented jazz musicians.
 Talented Brighton born folk/ country singer Sarah Cripps is at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Feb. 16.

The Owl also has a rock show this week with Vista Park and the Utilities performing Feb. 15.

 Other local performers worth hearing this week include Bridgette Yarwood, who plays Ric’s Grill, Feb. 13 and a special performance by Pete Watson and Joel Bryant  who play Ric’s Grill, Feb. 14.
The Mocha Cabana welcomes back country / pop singer Alyssa McQuaid who releases her new CD on Feb. 23.

And last, but not least, if you like classical guitar, check out Dale Ketcheson at the Mocha Cabana, Feb. 15.
