The Weber Brothers Band returned to rock the Geomatic Attic, Monday, May 6. I only caught the end of their set, which was full of old school ’50s and ’60s ish rock and roll including a lot of originals and a couple new ones.
But I arrived in time for them to bring up Brooke Wylie, who they have been touring with and her back-up singer/ bassist Sol James.
“Oh my God, the Weber Brothers have invited me up on stage to play with them,” enthused Wylie who took command of the shadowy stage to croon a lovely country number from her CD, which the Weber Brothers also play on.
An audience member called out a request for “Left Right, Left Right,” the title track from their double CD a few years ago. Guitarist Sam Weber grinned “We’ll get to that.” Which they did eventually after letting every one have their solo including frenetic keyboardist Shai “Cookie ” Peer bouncing between his two keyboards in the shadows.
Their drummer Marcus Brown came to the front of the stage to add a third vocal harmony before returning behind the drums.
They wound up their set with a trio of popular hits including a hot version of blues classic “Who Do You Love,” on which Sam Weber jumped on top of R his brother Ryan Weber’s stand -up bass and and played a solo while balancing on it.
They returned for an encore of “Roll over Beethoven,” then brought Wylie and Sol James back on stage for a sweet version of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” featuring Brooke Wylie on vocals, Sol James on bass and Ryan Weber taking over one of the keyboards.
