If you didn’t get enough live music at the Electric Eye Music Festival last week , there are a couple of excellent shows including a big fundraiser for Fort McMurray, May 21 at Smokehouse.
But first, Kamloops rock band the Decoys return to the Slice, May 18 winding down their tour in support of their brand new CD “In Our Blood.”
That same night there is a fascinating speaking tour with Harsha Wallia who has several engagements this week. The South Asian activist, writer and educator will be speaking about her new book “Allyship and Organizing.”
She will be speaking about undoing border imperialism at the Lethbridge Public Library at 7 p.m. and at the Owl Acoustic Lounge after that on April 18. She will be speaking at SACPA at noon at the Country Kitchen on May 19 and at the Library again that evening at 7 p.m. to speak about allyship and organizing.
There is a little bit of rock and roll this week and a whole lot of country. Saskatoon based rock band Johnny 2 Fingers and the Deformities return to the Slice, May 19 and Will Big Bull plays the Slice, May 20.
Local rock band Band Of Brothers play Casino Lethbridge May 20 and 21.
There are several big country and roots shows this week. Local roots band Rancho Deluxe are holding a CD fundraiser at the Slice, May 21. There is a $10 cover to help them raise money to record a new CD. Gillian Moranz will open the show.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge features quirky Calgary born, Vancouver based country duo Chicken Like Birds and No Mothers playing May 21.The Owl Acoustic Lounge bring back local folk and roots duo Joel Bryant and Pete Watson.
Those shows are competing with a big day long fundraiser, May 21 at the Smokehouse featuring a cornucopia of Southern Alberta talent including The Lethbridge Firefighters Pipe and Drums, Bryan Horvat, Tres Hombres, Womp, Oliver Wolffe , Eric Braun band, Shooting For Mars, Dory and the Weathermen, Kelly and the Bastards and the Mark Hall band plus an open mic at the end of the night. There is a $10 cover to be donated to the Fort McMurray Salvation Army.
