Folk, roots and country music and International Peace Powwow and poetry this week

 After that, get jazzed with a jazz jam at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Wednesday, Feb. 21 with hosts HBO3 and Josh Davies.
 Get an early start on St Patrick‘s Day celebrations with the annual visit by Newfoundland Celtic band the Irish Descendants who return to Average Joes on a busy Thursday night. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the show.


 But that’s not all, get ready to laugh as Jokers Gone Wild returns to Casino Lethbridge with Comedians Ken Hicks, Chris Gordon and Elisia Snyder. Tickets are $10.
 On the other hand, the Owl Acoustic Lounge features whole lot of pop punk with Calgary’s Pizza Bath, which is one of Sean Hamilton’s many bands which include Miesha and the Spanks and Julius Sumner Miller. They will be joined by the Abductees as well as local alternative rock duo Cope.

 There is a variety of music on Friday, Feb. 23 beginning with the U of L Wind Orchestra performing at University Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
 Later on, local Celtic/jazz/ folk band The Junkman’s Quire return to the Slice with Calgary based , Celtic tinged alt rock band Craic the Lens. Admission is $10.
Country fans won’t want to miss a long awaited visit from Gord Bamford who stops by the Rocky Mountain Turf Club, Feb. 23 with Aaron Goodvin in support of his eighth album “Neon Smoke.” Tickets are $48. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Average Joes is a busy place this weekend. The Steve Keenan Band bring the blues and a touch of country with Daylan Delaney, Friday, Feb. 23, while classic rock band the Chevelles hold a fundraiser for the LFC Football Club and KidsSport, the next night, Feb. 24. Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.


Blues rock fans can also check out local band Coda at Casino Lethbridge this weekend.
 The Owl Acoustic lounge features  the CD release party for local indie folk artist Tyson Borsboom, who is releasing his new CD “Sinner.” Admission is by donation.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge brings back Regina based Indie rock band Bears in Hazenmore.
 They will be joined by local indie rock band the Silkstones and Kevin Giron.


 The Slice features an excellent roots show, Feb. 24 with Peterborough alt country/roots/cajun duo the Mayhemingways who will be joined by Skinny Dyck and the Chick Catchers who may feature some of the folks from Skinny Dyck’s excellent Twenty One Night stands compilation.
Just outside of town, KCS Pub in Coaldale features a couple of events including local rock duo the Coulee Rattlers featuring Gabriel Thaine.
 The next day KCs pub hosts a battle of the bands from 3-8:30 p.m. followed by an open jam.


The big event of the week is the International Peace powwow at the Enmax Centre. So look forward to two days of First Nations Blackfoot drumming,  dancing, food and much more.
 Doors open at 10 a.m., Admission is $17 adults, $15 students and seniors 65 + $7 children; weekend passes $29.
 There is even poetry this weekend as Jeff Godin hosts The Jesters Court at Casa, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.


 There will be readings from Godin, Blaine Greenwood from his new book “The False Mirror” and hip hop from the Blood Rez Crew and much more. There is no cover charge to attend.
