Citizen Rage made a long awaited return to the Slice, Friday, Oct. 1. But I had to wait until well past midnight to see them. I arrived in the middle of a rare full band Scallywags performance.
The local punk rock band played a loose yet tight set of mostly original punk rock music mostly about drinking.
They had plenty of gang vocals and shout along choruses. I couldn’t understand any of the lyric, but appreciated their energy
They are alway a lot of fun.
Berserker were up next with their usual set of ’90s inspired alternative rock and screamo music with elements of The Foo Fighters and Rage Against the Machine.
They added a few new songs as well including one called “Berserker hates the kids.”. As always, Jon
Vornbrock bellowed out the vocals from the shadows on the side of the stage.
Calgary’s Citizen Rage showed everyone how it was supposed to be done, playing an incendiary set of hardcore punk.
They were incredibly tight, they opened with “I Will Fucking Kill You” from their most recent Ep “Black.”
Frontman Mark Russell jumped all over the stage, bellowing out the lyrics while the band added furious drum, bass and guitar attacks.
During the brief stops between songs, Russell asked the audience members to hug the person next to them.
They had plenty of snarling guitars and lots of gang vocals.
They played songs from all of their EPS of which “Struggle ” was a highlight .
They played aa couple of new songs including “Watch What You Say” and “ Back in Time” to appear on their upcoming full length debut Cd.
“ Twitch” from the “Black” Ep was another highlight as they wound up a short, swift and loud set of heartfelt hardcore punk music.
They ended with “What’s it To You.”
