Plenty of plays and a plethora of music this week

Actors finally are able to take the stage. Due to Covid, live performances have been far and few between over the past two years, but they make up for it this week with three  productions opening this week.

 

The University of Lethbridge is first out of the gate with their production of Noel Coward’s comedy of manners “Design for Living.” It runs at University Theatre from Nov. 16-20 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 seniors and alumni and $12 for students.

 

Next up, Playgoers of Lethbridge features “an Evening of Three-atre” in the Sterndale  Bennett Theatre, Nov. 18-20 at 7:30 p.m.

 The production features  Elaine Jagielski’s original work “ Love’s Best By.”

 Rita Peterson directs a reader’s theatre of “the Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” And Rob Berezay directs John Carroll’s  “Oh What A Tangled Web” Admission is by donation at the door.

 

And, last but not least, Fran Rude brings back Peter Rothstein penned  “A Christmas Truce” Erick Lichte and Timothy  C Takach composed the a capella musical arrangements, Nov. 19-21 next door at the Yates Theatre. It will be a fundraiser for the LSCO.

Tickets are $44 for the performances, which are at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19 and 20 and a matinee on Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. They are available at the Yates Theatre and Enmax Centre  Box Office.

As with all indoor productions, due to Covid,  all attendees must have proof of double vaccination and be masked throughout the 80 minute production.

 

Didi’s Playhaus hosts Gommorahwood III , Impromptu’s improvised western themed soap opera, on Saturday, Nov. 20. Tickets are $15 for the show that begins at 8 p.m.

 

If you want to laugh, So You Think You Can Comic returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Wednesday, Nov. 17 with several local comedians performing beginning at 8 p.m.

 Good Times’s comedy open mic is Tuesday as usual.

Mike Dambra performs two shows each night Nov. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.. p.m. Tickets are $20.

 

There is music this week for literally all music fans.

 As always , the Owl Acoustic Lounge has their open mic on Tuesday.

 

 Jazz night is Wednesday night at the Watertower with live jazz music from 6-8 p.m.

 The Slice’s open mic is on Thursday.

 

 Bridgette Yarwood hosts Honkers pub’s Friday night open mic. JD hosts Honker Pub”s Saturday afternoon open mic.

 Suzanne Scott and the Dusty Road band return to Casino Lethbridge  on the weekend with all of your country and rock favourites.

Alt country and roots music fans will enjoy a sweet double bill at the Owl Acoustic Lounge featuring Regina roots musician Amy Nelson with local alt country/ rock band Starpainter, Friday, Nov. 19. Admission is by donation.

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge turns things up a notch on Saturday, Nov. 20 with Edmonton power trio Black Mastiff  and local punk rock band FaceCut. Admission is $10.

Over at the Slice  on Friday, Nov. 19, the Hip Trip will play all your Tragically Hip favourites. The Trippy Hippys will be sharing the stage with them.

 Over at the Slice, local doom folk band Makiisma and  Calgary art rock band l’omelette play the Slice  on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.

 Metallica Tribute Damage Inc return to McLennan’s in Coaldale on Friday  for a free show with Dated Delay beginning at 8 p.m. 

 

Later on, the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra has their second concert of the season, Monday, Nov. 22. Hungarian Rhapsody features pianist  Bradley Parker performing Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2;Liszt - Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat and Bartók - Concerto for Orchestra. Tickets are $25-$75. The concert begins at Southminster United Church at 7:30 p.m.

 

Saskatchewan folk/country troubadour Zachary Lucky returns to the Slice, Tuesday, Nov. 23.

 The Geomatic Attic is back in their main venue on Tuesday , Nov. 23 with Surry folk duo Ocie Elliott and guests. The $25 tickets are almost sold out for the show, which begins at 8 p.m.
