Festivals, fundraisers and plenty of heavy music this week

It ’s starting to look like festival season n Lethbridge.

 There are a couple festivals happening this week.

 New West Theatre hosts  Kirbfest, Friday June 17 and Saturday June 18.

 The family friendly multi-cultural festival features several people performing at the Yates Theatre.

 Kirby Smith, John Wort Hannam , Steve Keenan, Desert Orchid, Jorge Aviles and Double Rider perform on Friday.

Quade Mountain Horse,  Blackfoot Dance Troupe, Hootenanny!, The Band Formerly Known and Karen, Lewis and Pam, Chris Weasel Moccasin and Jax Running Rabbit will be performing on Saturday, June 18.  Tickets are $10.55 for each night.

Arts in the Park opens the summer of Saturday festivals all over the city on Saturday, June 18 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Nicholas Sheran Park. Kai Brooks opens the show at noon followed by Fawns, the Bridgette Yarwood band, Jolene Draper and Indigenous contemporary dancer Sandra Lamouche winding things up at 4:30 p.m.

 

 Jolene Draper is also part of a big fundraiser for Creepy Hollow haunted house in Warner, which suffered a devastating fire earlier this month. The free show features  something for everyone including songwriters Luke Bruce, Ryan O’Brien, Dennis Wade, Chris Drew, Saints &Sinners, Jolene Draper & the Inquisitive few, Misfits tribute 138, New Autumn, Switched Off, Eons of Earth and Dead Army.

There will be a live and silent auctions plus  local comedians as well, plus a Kids zone, bouncy castles, laser tag, pony rides and more.

 The show opens at 9 a.m.

 

There is an array of live entertainment this week.

 Luke James Bruce is back at Mojo’s Pub to host an open mic tonight, Monday, June 13.

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge’s weekly open mic is on Tuesday. The Slice has a blues jam on Tuesday, June 14 as well.

 

Scott Davidson hosts an open mic at the Slice on Wednesday, June 15. The Mark Hall band hosts  Honkers Pub’s open mic on June 18

 

 The Slice features Calgary roots and folk musician Carter Felker on Thursday, June 16. Felker is supporting his brand new album “Even the Happy Ones are Sad.’

 

 Also for folk fans, Tyson Ray Borsboom and Kevin Giron, and Wyatt Born play a special Pridefest fundraiser at  the Duke on the west side, Saturday, June 18. Admission is by donation.

 

 Also for Pridefest, The Owl Acoustic Lounge features the Get Juicy  Drag night, Saturday June 18. Contact the Owl Acoustic Lounge for tickets.

 On the pop side of things, Max Hopkins releases his new Cd “Sojourn”  with Tyler Vandendool returns to the Slice on Friday, June 18 with Ol’ Ben. Admission is $10.

 

 If you want to practise you ’50s dance moves and enjoy some ’50s tunes, dust off those poodle skirts and zoot suits, Coda and Rebel Angel rock Honkers Pub ’50s style on Saturday. Beginning at 6 p.m.. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Tom Price returns to Casino Lethbridge this weekend.

Just out of town,  local Bon Jovi Tribute Runaway bring the ’80s to KC ’s Pub in Coaldale,

For comedy, The Canadian Brewhouse’s comedy night is Thursday.

Scott Dumas returns to Good Times Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. each night.

 Good Times’ pro-amateur night is on Thursday as well, where up and coming comedians share the stage with more seasoned comedians. The laughs begin at 7 p.m. Admission is five dollars. 

 

 If you love it loud, there are lots of options for you this week.

Calgary punk band Quit It! Return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Friday, June 17 with Medicine Hat punk/ metal band  Western Death and Bunny Eyes.

The Glorious Sons graduate to the big stage at the Enmax Centre, June 18 as they brings their Covid delayed  Unfinished Business Tour with JJ Wilde to Lethbridge.Tickets are $79 and $69.The music begins at 7:50 p.m.

The Slice has a great punk rock show on June 18 with local favourites Sessions plus Edmonton skate punk band  Broke yolks and Bob Scallywag. Admission is $10. The show begins at 9 p.m.

 

 Theoretically Brewing asserting up some metal on a Sunday as they welcome Mexican power death act Shadow of Death, who are supporting their new album Lords Ov Apostocracy.

 They will be joined by local thrash metal band Balrogath, Drearius and Calgary death metal band  Necrocroft.. The show begins 8 p.m. sharp. Admission is $10.
