Lethbridge was lousy with festivals , Saturday, July 9.
I hit bits of three out of four of them.
Local surf rock band the Atomicos played a laid back set of instrumental surf music in Legacy Park opening this week’s arts in the park festival.
People were just starting to settle in front of the stage as they played an array of classics like “MIrsirlou,” to original surf rock jams.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen them play, so they had a brand new line up with Tyson Wiebe fronting the band and shouting out stories of some of their originals. including a song about sharks.
They switched things up for a few more country/ spaghetti western style songs before going back to surf rock
Mickey Hayward sat comfortably on a stool to play bass , Tyler Bourne added extra guitar and Chris H added the backbeat on drums.
They were kicking off an afternoon of entertainment including the Mini Dancers, Troyanda Ukrainian Dancers, Local Celtic band Celtic Roots and the Eric brand band, who were playing all over town at a variety of events including at an outdoor festival at Casino Lethbridge.
Arts in the park is in Galt Gardens on Saturday, July 16 with Fawns opening the Rocking in the Park Too at 1 p.m. with Kai Brooks, the Bridgette Yarwood Band, Rudy Strangling Wolf and the Eric Braun band.
