A new, possibly one show only Iron maiden hit the stage at the Slice, Dec. 30.
I only caught the end of a solid show that pulled out all the stops for a packed house and an enthusiastic audience.
I arrived as the band, apparently playing a fundraiser for one of the guitarists Stephen McGlenn and the lead singer, Bonnie Leggat, was winding up their show with “ Run For the Hills.”
They had somebody dressed as a Yeti dancing about on stage through the smoke and lasers.
They nailed the New Wave Of British Heavy metal sound right down to the twin guitar leads.
Isaac Neufeld was lost in the smoke, hammering out a frenetic rhythm in the background. Shimberto Robashi held down the bottom end on bass.
Somebody on stilts and wearing a skull mask and apocalypse cloak wandered through the crowd during an epic version of Rime of the Ancient Mariner, as Pauls asked the audience if they wanted them to continue the tribute dubbed 664: the Neighbour of the Beast.
The audience answered with a resounding chorus of cheers and screamed for an encore, but the band knew no more.
