The Dark Wrangler aka Don Cassell celebrated his seventieth birthday in style with lots of music and special guests at the Slice, Saturday, Feb. 5. Taylor Ackerman was playing lead guitar, Tyler Bird played bass and drummer Jon Vornbrock laid the foundation while Cassell belted out raspy CCR style vocals and blasted harp solos.
Danica Sommer joined them to belt out my favourite Dark Wrangler song “ Light of Day.”
“Make it Last ”was another highlight as was the more stoner rock of “Nothing Left to Lose.”
Mel Gaydos joined them to play guitar on a couple of songs including a Bob Dylan song and Neil Young’s ” “Ohio.”
I missed Dil Jopp on stage with the band, but her own punk band with Richard Yarwood played their own high octane set of metal tinged punk with plenty of guitar riffs and Jopp holding down the bass.
