It’s a long weekend. If you, like me, don’t travel on long weekends, there’s lots happening in Lethbridge including plenty of alt country and country music and Winnipeg musicians visiting Lethbridge this week.
Things start early as rising local country musician Brayden King and B.C musician Beamer Wigley kicks off his Bad Night to be a Beer Tour tonight (Tuesday, May 16) at the Slice. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
Down the street, it is open mic night at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Tuesday.
The Slice turns things up on Wednesday, May 17 with a big, loud, Winnipeg metal show with metalcore band Hopscotch Battle Scars and Straight Edge metal core band XMeans to an XEnd.
Local mathcore band Abrupt Decay are also part of this show, which begins early at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
For something a little more mellow, Randy Epp and Sheena Lawson return to the Watertower Grill to play some jazz music from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 17.
The Geomatic Attic also has a jazz show on Wednesday as they collaborate with the Lethbridge Jazz and Blues Society to welcome the Nick Maclean Quartet with internationally acclaimed trumpet player Brownman Ali . Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 members, $42 non members
For more country music, Tom Price plays Festival Square outside of the Telegraph Taphouse, Thursday, May 18 beginning at 6 p.m.
The Slice has a very special show on Thursday, May 18 as they welcome back Winnipeg singer songwriter Romi Mayes, who will be paying tribute to alt country maven Lucinda Williams beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $22.63 through eventbrite.
Gabriel Thaine hosts an open mic at Theoretically Brewing as he does every Thursday when there isn’t a Celtic jam.
There is more country on the weekend as Circle Ridge Country host the open mic at Honkers Pub on Friday, May 19. Alana Folkard plays a variety of music at Casino Lethbridge this weekend, May 19 and 20.
For something more exotic, the Owl Acoustic Lounge hosts Soulful Vibes Afrobeat Night on Friday, May 19.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge features Yarboro, (formerly Biloxi Parish) who have just released a new EP “ Nights Here Die Without a Sound” with Chrome Harvest aka Chris Jerwin and Ben Wellman and Paula Neu.
Good Times will be a good time with a whole lot of laughs this week. Pro-Amateur night is Wednesday, May 17, Brian Dawydiuk and Cole Howg host a new comedy game show called Fibs on Thursday, May 17 where two teams will compete to see who can stretch the truth the most. Charles Haycock returns the Good Times, Friday and Saturday.
