Plethora of plays, comedy and food bank fundraisers this week

 There is pop, fundraisers and plenty of plays happening this week.

Things start off slow as usual with an open mic at the Owl Acoustic lounge tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 7.

 They host an I Heart Valentines Market  at 6 p.m. on Thursday followed by Soulful Vibes Afrobeat with Omo Oba.

 

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge goes country with Willy Big Bull band and Desert Orchid on Friday, Feb. 10. 

 

 Unfortunately Bands as bands Punk Adjacent edition has been cancelled for Saturday. But there is still plenty of punk on the bill as they host an  AES (U of L Audio Engineering Society) fundraiser featuring Open Channels, Lady Grime and Stirling. Admission is $15.

 

Around the corner, Pro-Amateur night returns to Good Times on Thursday, so get some early weekend laughs as seasoned performers and newcomers take the stage with their best jokes beginning at 7 p.m.. Admission is five dollars. Lebanese comedian Malik Elassal performs at Good Times, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $14.95

 Two plays open this week. Playgoers of Lethbridge continue their 100th anniversary celebration with the Play that Goes Wrong, opening tonight, Feb. 7 and running until Saturday, Feb. 11.

 The U of L brings popular children’s story “ The Little Prince” to life at University Theatre with an eclectic, multi-disciplinary  staging of the story.

 It runs Feb. 10-18.

 

 Hatrix Theatre is bringing back Larry Shue’s comedy “ the Foreigner” in May, but auditions are today, Feb. 7 from 6-9 p.m. at Casa.

 And, just announced, Impromptu hosts a drop- in  improv session at Didi’s Playhaus, Thursday, Feb. 9. So come on in and join the fun. It won’t cost you none. The laughs begin at 7 p.m.

Honkers Pub welcomes new host  Kyle Bische for their open mic on Friday Night and host Cal Toth and Anna McBryan’s Duelling Pianos back to the stage on Saturday , Feb. 11. Admission is $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

 

If you missed Paul Kype and Steve Keenan at Honkers Pub  on Friday, they are at Casino Lethbridge on Friday and Saturday, celebrating Greg Gomola’s  50th birthday. Paul Kype and Texas Flood play another show on Saturday, Feb. 11.


 Bully’s Entertainment centre under the grandstand at Exhibition Park, hosts Rudy Strangling Wolf’s CD release party on  Feb. 10 with special guests, Pretty on the Inside and Double Rider. Admission is $15. The music begins at 8 p.m.

There are a couple special classic and jazz shows happening on the weekend. The U of L singers plus John Wort Hannam and pianist Brad parker plus the U of L Opera Singers play a special fundraiser for the Interfaith, Lethbridge and U of l Food Banks, Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30. Admission  is free, but because it is a Fundraiser, there is a suggested donation of $20.

 

 Put on your dancing shoes as there is a big band cabaret in support of the University of Lethbridge Wind Orchestra, Saturday, Feb. 11.

 The event happens in the U of L Ballroom in the Student’s Union building featuring music by Lethbridge Big Band who will be putting you through your swing dancing paces. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., dance lessons begin at 8 p.m.. Tickets are $20 each or $120 for a table of eight. They will also be accepting non perishable food donations for the ULSU food bank.

 

The Slice goes pop on Saturday, Feb. 11 as they welcome back pop musician Ty Vanden Dool with special guest Makiisma. Admission is by donation.

 

If you want to bang your head, AC DC tribute BC DC  visit the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod, Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $37.50.

Coming up, the International peace powwow returns to the Enmax Centre, Feb. 25 and 26. Niitsitapi (People of the Blackfoot Confederacy) from both sides of the border gather to celebrate their culture with songs, dancing, drumming and competitions, Tickets are available now.

 And  The Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society have announced auditions for their summer production of Taming of the Shrew.

 Auditions are Feb. 23 and 24 at Casa from 6-9 p.m.. Callbacks will be Feb. 26. Prepare a short Shakespearian monologue ideally from Taming of the Shrew. Auditioners may be asked to cold read from the script as well. Slots must be booked in advance. https://forms.gle/x6g1SdywHrQV1Shz8
