Long standing  local theatre group Playgoers of Lethbridge has an exciting centennial season planned.

They are holding auditions for their production of  Jonathan Sayer, Henry Lewis and  Henry Shields’s farce “ The Play That Goes Wrong.”

“This Olivier Award-winning comedy is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. Welcome to opening night of The Murder at Haversham Manor where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines),” according to the play’s website.

Auditions are Oct. 18 and 19  in the Casa Community room, for the play which will be happening in Feb. 7-11 on the Yates Theatre stage.

“It’s about a theatre troupe putting on a 1920s murder mystery. But there are a lot of problems with  the cast, props and stage manager. There are a lot of mistakes. And there is a murder. So there is a dead body on stage,” said  director Elaine Jagielski.

They need six male actors and two female actors for the 2012 play, which has been stage in London as well as on Broadway.

“ One of our board members saw it on Broadway and suggested we do it, so we got the rights,” said Jagielski.

“ It’s very complicated,” she said adding it also requires a talented backstage crew, set designer and stage manage.

“ We hope to start rehearsals soon because it is so complicated. So you can’t just show up,” Jagielski said, noting rehearsals will likely begin in November. The days and times will depend on the cast’s schedules.

“ It’s very complicated blocking, so the more time we have to rehearse the better. It requires a big commitment,” she continued, adding there is a lot of physicality and movement involved.

No preparation is needed to audition. Auditioners will be given excerpts from the play to read.

“ It’s a really fun farce,” she said.

“ And it’s a great way to get involved in a Centennial celebration for a local theatre group. Not many organizations will be having that in your lifetime,” Jagielski said.

 Auditions are  6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18 and  6:30- 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
