Artist Bio:
Starpainter is a folk rock band from Lethbridge, Alberta. They wear their influences on their sleeves, showcasing strong songwriting and an affinity for gently psychedelic alt-twang tones. The band has been growing a following on the strength of a debut full-length titled Bury Me By My Family (2020) and a 3-song EP titled Blood in the Snow (2021).
Starpainter has been featured on CBC’s Key of A and spent time on CKUA’s Top 10 chart, as well as Earshot’s Canada-wide Folk / Roots Top 10 chart. The band recently finished a record titled Rattlesnake Dream to be released June 2nd, mixed by Jon Anderson (Andy Shauf, Aiden Knight) and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova (Feist, Father John Misty).
Rattlesnake Dream exists in a small-town universe that has become a defining feature of Starpainter’s body of work. Themes of family, aging, and personal loss are explored across the album’s 10 tracks. The forthcoming record is their strongest yet, exploring new sonic territory and further developing a signature sound built on old-school songwriting craftsmanship and imaginative, guitar-heavy arrangements.
Starpainter is Joel Stretch, Colby Stolson, Mickey Hayward, and Joel Gray.

Casa is the realization of a 20 year dream, shared by many in the
Lethbridge arts community, to expand or replace the Bowman Arts Centre.
This unique new facility far surpasses the original vision for
expansion, and sets a new standard for interdisciplinary arts centres.
It is about experimentation, incubation, learning and growing. Casa was
built to serve a multi-generational community, with varying art skill
sets and interests in all disciplines of the arts.
Designing the building was a comprehensive and collaborative process
led by Nyhoff Architecture from (Calgary) working in conjunction with
the local architectural firm of Ferrari Westwood Babits. The
Architectural team visited numerous arts education institutions and also
met with members of the local arts community to define requirements for
a truly functional 42,000 square foot art centre. The resulting
building design is truly impressive.
Funding for the project were provided by the Federal Build Canada
Fund ($6,000,000.), the Provincial MSI Fund ($14,900,000.) and the City
of Lethbridge ($200,000).
