Description

Axis of Conversation is a patchwork of pop made from voices, guitars, drums, strings, keys, and former lovers disassembled and spun backwards on Kaoss pads. And according to some members of the music press, Axis of Conversation is also one of Calgary’s most exciting new bands. It started in 2006, with five songs pressed onto hand-painted CD-Rs and titled 'There’s Hope For You Yet (just kidding)'. In a move that shocked its humble creators, the EP disappeared from independent record shops and sidestage tables. Next thing you know, Montreal-based experimental music program Brave New Waves were spinning it. BeatRoute Magazine called it the ‘soundtrack to a pleasant dream’. And FFWD Weekly hailed Axis of Conversation ‘the newest and coolest band in town.‘ Fall 2007 saw the release of 'Delusions of Safety' - an intimate and unsettling pop record born from newfound friendships and personal tragedy. To celebrate, Axis of Conversation played at a downtown sandstone cathedral, and CBC Radio recorded the concert for broadcast on 'The Key of A'. Radio 3 chose ‘Don’t Be Alarmed (there’s a carcass)’ for its Track Of The Day podcast. A western Canada tour followed, as did glowing reviews from several publications, including New York's Global Rhythm Magazine. It also made 'Best of 2007' lists in FFWD Weekly and the CBC Radio program 'Daybreak Alberta'. 'Delusions of Safety' has since climbed college charts in Ottawa, London, Windsor, North York, Waterloo, Kamloops, Lethbridge and Calgary. It's also receiving airplay in Australia, Germany and the U.S.

Axis of Conversation has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Dave Bidini of The Rheostatics, Snailhouse, Hey Rosetta!, Rebekah Higgs, The Arkells, The Most Serene Republic and members of Bedouin Soundclash.

Planet Telex are fun local alternative rock band which incorporates a little reggae, a little pop and some punk influences.

Amelia Earhart are a local bass and drums rock/alternative duo.
