Big John Bates
LIKE BEING SERENADED WITH A RUSTY HAMMER ...
John Bates’ first gig was singing & co-writing for the iconic thrash band Annihilator (Alison Hell). Beginning in 2001 Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz mined Americana and rockabilly styles and developed a unique B-movie style of burlesque. In 2010 John brought BJB & the Dollz to a successful close with a 14-country / 16-week / 80-date tour.

In 2011 BJB's post-punk guitar met Brandy Bones' southern gothic upright bass and their new attack on Americana was immediate. Their songwriting welds the drone of Brandy's western roots and John's upbeat back-alley chords into a rustic nightmare only hinted at in Bates' past recordings. Having two lead vocalists further re-defines the sound on their first 7” - Scarecrow Close (Rookie Records / EU) - begining with 8*/10* from Germany's heavy depression-punk OX Magazine (2011).
The group has played with wild acts like Andre Williams, Dex Romweber, the Supersuckers, Corb Lund, Boss Hoss, Robert Gordon, The Belrays, US Bombs, Koko Taylor, T-Model Ford, Los Straightjackets & Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
The Grindshow:
The Grindshow brings the whole damned circus to town. For this show they dropped the thin glitter of burlesque and developed a crooked sideshow essence. The Grindshow integrates performers using contact fire, electric grinders, contortion, switch-blades, snake oil and more in the heart of the BJB shows. Add that to the showmanship of the band and even the hours of YouTube video online will only give you a glimmer of the Grindshow's live intensity.

THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF REVEREND DEADEYE OUT NOW ON CD & LP ON HAZELWOOD VINYL PLASTICS!! .. The Reverend Deadeye is the Reverend’s son of a Reverend’s son. He spent his youth handlin’ snakes and performin’ at tent revivals alongside his Pentecostal family on the Navajo reservation in Arizona. This sacred musical heritage finds its way prominently into his performances. But don’t expect a Sunday mornin’ church service; instead, expect a Saturday night baptism with fire holy rollin’ revival. With his modified wok-lid resonator guitar, homemade beer can microphone, kick drum, and washtub snare, he delivers a punk-rock version of gritty pre-war delta blues which he blends with fiery gospel interpretations capable of turnin’ the whole room into a spirit filled bar room revival. ......... In the wake of Tom Waits and the slough of bands evoking an old-time spirit, there's Denver's Reverend Deadeye, mixing up his own brew of ministry inspired, soul-saving music. One of the things that impresses me most about Reverend Deadeye is that, for all intents and purposes, he's the real deal. As a missionary kid, he spent most of his youth mingling with Navajos at tent revivals. His performance is less of an "act" than it is a natural manifestation of his real-life experiences. Where others are often just recapturing worlds that they learned about in books or their old Nick Cave albums, The Reverend is telling a real story that he (more or less) lived himself. Now that's something. -apogee magazine .. Folks who have made the Rev’s shows a lil’ brighter. Reverend Beatman, Dexter Romweber, Immortal Lee Country Killers, Drag The River, Bob Log iii, Soledad Brothers, Gogol Bordello, The Black Keys, Quintron, The Black lips, Black Eyed Snakes, Scott H Biram, Trampled by Turtels, Charlie Parr, Earl Greyhound, Buffalo Killers, Pine Hill Haints, and The Can Kickers ..
