Marq DeSouza is a Vancouver based musician who's so far released 5 critically-acclaimed albums of self-penned material. For the most part, records composed of strong, song-based rock n' roll in the classic way, with frequent detours into the shady musical sidestreets. Elements of 70's glam, Nashville twang, hard city blues, country-folk, Brill building balladry, power pop, Southern soul & even the occasional hip-hop & metal are all filtered through a uniquely powerful lyrical view. At the heart of these sounds lies the unvarnished voice, bloodied but unbowed. Possibly an acquired taste, but this world certainly doesn't need anymore cookie-cutters or even virtuosos behind the mic. Truth, however, is never out of demand. This music will remind you of a time when you could put faith in that voice coming out of the speakers. Where listening to a record could actually give you the secret codes to live your life by. Plus, it's FUN!!

Spencer Jo's musical journey has taken him all over the world and somehow he always makes it home. Home being Canadian prairie city Calgary, AB. Started playing punk gigs at age sixteen, 2002, with the Falling Pianos. Joined Rum Runner in 2006. In his adult life, he's independently released a solo album (2007) and made a record as a member of Rum Runner (Stumble Records June 2009). From the dingiest dive bars to the brightest festival beer gardens, he's shared stages with Greats from both the punk and folk worlds. From the streets of Vancouver to the streets of Marrakech he's sung with the hardiest of locals. Where will the road take him from here? Somewhere awesome, probably.
"Canadian artist Spencer Jo Burgess isn't interested in sugarcoating things. In fact, he's spent much of his musical life searching for sour truth and throwing the spotlight onto it. He's been in and out of punk bands since the age of 16, and the winding road has lead him to his current incarnation as a folk artist with a sometimes political, sometimes surreal edge that makes his social commentary poignant for anyone who listens." --Jason Neubauer, Play By Play
