Finny McConnell is one of the very few true singers/songwriters left in Paddy Rock & Punk, and The Black Irish will be hard to beat as the #1 album of the year in Celt Rock & Punk! Pick up your copy people!” - John Bowles, Paddy Punk Radio

“The Mahones are not only the best Canadian party/dancing/drinking band you'll ever hear, but they've also written some gorgeous ballads.  They are dichotomous: both poignantly folk and electrifyingly supersonic.” - Christine Bode, journalist.

Raise your pints!  The Mahones are back with The Black Irish, a brand new album filled with Celtic punk anthems that pack the punk punch their global horde of fans have come to expect, and beg to be played on the loudspeaker at any pub, party or sports arena to get crowds on their feet and revved up for a big night.

“I wanted to make a classic Irish Punk record that fused traditional Irish folk music with classic punk rock, to the extreme. I believe we accomplished this on The Black Irish!” said Singer/Guitarist Finny McConnell.

Fans of the traditional hard edged Mahones sound will be at home with tracks like “A Great Night On The Lash” and “Give It All Ya Got (Or Forget About It)” which show that The Mahones can still write a Celtic punk song with an intensity that nobody else can match.

The Mahones are certainly not a one trick pony though. The up-tempo energy of The Black Irish is tempered with well-crafted balladry in songs like “Girl With Galway Eyes” and “Whiskey Under The Bridge” without ever losing momentum. The Mahones have created a defining record that shows the depth of their songwriting and range are their biggest strengths.

“Our music has always been about story-telling to which everyone can relate, and a DIY attitude. Give it all you’ve got, or forget about it!” said McConnell of the band’s pure punk attitude.

Formed in 1990 by Dublin born Singer/Guitarist and Songwriter Finny McConnell, The Mahones feature Dom "The Bomb” Whelan (Drums/Vocals), Katie McConnell (Accordion/Vocals), Sean Winter (Banjo/ Mandolin/Harmonica), Sean “Riot” Ryan (Bass/Vocals) and have maintained their steadfast drive for the past 20 years which has propelled them to immerge as the seminal Irish punk band of the past two decades. The Black Irish features very special guest appearances by fellow Punk and Rock legends, Rick Barton (Dropkick Murphys/Continental) and Ian Blurton (Change Of Heart/C'Mon).

Never resting from a determined touring schedule, The Mahones have circled the globe and seen their hard work pay off by playing some of the world’s largest festivals, and sharing stages with legends including Billy Bragg, The Dropkick Murphys, The Buzzcocks, Shane MacGowan and The Popes, The Damned, The Tragically Hip, Steve Earle, Sinead O'Connor, Flogging Molly, and Van Morrison.

With songs that are the soundtrack to a raucous night at the pub you’ll never be able to forget (or remember), that will have you singing along at the top of your lungs and swaying in unison, it’s really no wonder that their hit song “Paint The Town Red” was selected to be featured in the climactic final fight scene of the seven-time Academy Award nominated film The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

To celebrate the film, The Mahones have remixed the classic track and included on The Black Irish which hits stores in Europe on January 8, 2011, in Canada on March 1, 2011 and in the United States March 8, 2011.
