Please mark your calendars - June 29 is the opening of the year of Centennial Celebrations at the Empress Theatre.  This night has the world premiere of our centennial play - The Stage that Made Us, by Ron Chambers.  It is also the official launch of the centennial Book - Reign of the Empress, by Peter Scott.  As a special treat, award-winning performer John Wort Hannam has written a song for this occasion, which he will debut that night.
 
the Centennial Launch continues into June 30th - with free tours of the theatre, the opening of the 2nd of 3 plays, and special activities including live art and entertainment, food and activities in the Devonian Walkway, just east of the theatre.
 
The grand lady has been around for 100 years - let's all show her our appreciation.  See you there!


As Alberta’s oldest continually operating theatre The Empress has served as a cultural gem in the hearts of its patrons for 100 years. Set against the living history within the Empress walls, The Stage That Made us tells the could-be tale of a fiery local actress and a young drifter. Written by accomplish playwright, Ron Chambers, this centennial production has something for everyone with a rich combination of live theatre, cinema, music, and history.
