 Saturday evening, Siksika Nation Country music singer-songwriter Armond Duck Chief took home First Place and the Grand Prize of $2,000 and 40 hours of studio time at the First Annual “OCL Studio’s” Battle of the Bands Talent Search. The event was co sponsored by the Mount Royal University First Nations Students Association and consisted of eight other finalists vying for the prestigious honor at the Hub located on campus. Armond competed against some of Alberta’s finest musicians in a variety of genres showcasing “only-original material” sets. Second place was No More Moments winning $1000.00 and 20 hours of Studio Time, and Unknown Band took home third winning $500.00. Accompanying Armond on stage was Rudy Heavy Runner on Lead Guitar and Vocals, Ira Provost on Bass and Weston Blatz on Drums.
“It’s a great honor to receive this award and have my songs receive the recognition” says Armond.
Armond released his first independent CD “Country Groove” that consisted of seven (7) original songs and three (3) cover songs. Armond and his Band have been busy touring and supporting his CD over the past year having performed at the Canadian Country Weekend and Calgary Stampede’s Nashville North and becoming a finalist in multiple talent shows including Lammle’s Rising Star Finalist, Colgate Country Showdown Finalist at Montana’s State Fair, and this weekend’s Cowboy’s Star Contest in Calgary.
On September 29th, 2012 Armond was the 2012 Blackfoot Arts Awards recipient in recognition for contribution to Blackfoot identity, pride and inspiration presented by the Blackfoot Canadian Cultural Society, in Lethbridge, AB.

Doors open at 7:00 pm with the show beginning at 8:00 pm.
