It was recorded live off the floor in CBC’s Toronto studio, but sounds like it was recorded in a closet. Pinchin whispers his lyrics like he’s afraid of waking the neighbours, but backs them with upbeat and intricately picked guitar playing.
The EP starts bluesy with a spooky delta blues version of the old standard “In My Time of Dying,” but then more of a pop and soul feel takes over though his guitar playing stands out.
He has a great feel for his guitar, playing a lot of different acoustic fingerpicking styles, even verging on classical on the last track, a cover of Chris Whitley’s “Loco Girl”.
Throughout he has an appealing, though quiet voice throughout the CD which shows off both his excellent guitar playing and voice on all six tracks.
