Daniel Wesley plays good vibes and reggae tinged pop

E-mail Print

Daniel Wesley is all about the good times on his self-titled debut CD for 604 Records.Click here to hear Daniel Wesley.
It came out in 2009,  and  while it has taken awhile to get around to reviewing it, it hasn’t been for lack of listening to it.
Because his fourth CD is an addictive listen, especially on a beautiful spring day.
There is a solid reggae beat throughout as well as a laid back, easy-going vibe.
In a world of chaos and confusion, it is great to hear a message about “spreading the love around,” and just having a good time all around, getting “drunk and stoned.”

There are a lot of beautiful vocal melodies, some catchy guitar and just an all around good feeling.
“Cocaine and Cops,” is especially catchy and I like the subdued banjo on the gospel tinged “Family.”
Wesley has a really appealing voice, which while sounding oddly familiar has an enjoyable sense of vocal melody.

While it is a lot more ’90s boy band style pop than I usually listen to, I really do enjoy the underlying Bob Marley feel of it as well as the guitar and the horns on one of the tracks.

The CD features Dave Genn who used to play with the Matthew Good Band and 54-40 engineering and adding some keyboard sand guitars.
Overall it is the kind of CD you listen to a lot then put it away and when you rediscover it, wonder why you put it away in the first place. Make sure you check out his return to Lethbridge, may 21 wioth KO and the Rebel Emergency at the Stone.
