This week began with rockabilly Monday, Oct. 3 at the Slice featuring Lethbridge psychobilly-punk band the Phantom Creeps and the Hellbound Hepcats, who played closer to traditional rockabilly music.
The Phantom Creeps played a typically tight set of snarling Nashville Pussy style originals including several from their latest CD and crowd favourites like “Cold Hearted Man” and “Route 666.”
But most of the people were there to dance to an upbeat, energetic and fun-filled set of mostly rockabilly from The Hellbound Hepcats.
Much of the audience tried out their favourite ’50s dance moves while the trio rocked it with entertaining songs like “The Underpants Dance” and “The Onion Song,” in which the lead singer channeled his inner Elvis, while resurrecting the ghost of Buddy Holly especially on an great version of Holly’s “Not Fade Away.”
Everyone seemed to love their song “Country Girls Like it Rough,” and they introduced a couple of new songs as well.
Throughout there were in the pocket slapping bass solos and some exceptional guitar work.
