James Oldenburg plays with HBO3 this week. Photo by Richard AmeryThe first week of January is notoriously slow as most people will be recovering from New Years and Christmas season craziness this week, but there are a couple of low key gigs happening.

If you enjoy experimental jazz music, then check out the Naked Ear Jazzerwocky show band, who play a free show at the Slice, Jan. 4.

For more mellow jazz, check out HBO3 at the Trianon Wine Bar where they will be playing happy hour, Jan. 6.

Along the same lines, Bridgette Yarwood and Evan Joseph are back at Ric’s Grill, Jan. 4 for their weekly Wednesday night jazz gig. It runs 7-10 p.m. There is no cover

If you are in the mood to rock, Lustre Creame and The New Weather Machine are all set to rock the Slice, Jan. 6 as well.

And the Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra return to the Slice, Jan. 7 with upbeat gypsy and jazz tinged indie-folk rock.
Also this weekend, the Bamboo Guppies are playing Casino Lethbridge.

And,  it being the first Friday on the month, check out the bluegrass jam at the Lethbridge Folk Club Wolf’s Den. Bluegrass jams are on the first and third Fridays of the month. They begin at 7 p.m. There is a two dollar cover. Their open mics take place on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at 8 p.m.
