Madchild and Tech N9ne kill it at Studio 54

E-mail Print PDF

I don’t listen to a lot of rap music, but couldn’t resist checking out Madchild and Tech N9ne at Studio 54, Sept. 12.Tech N9ne performing “Am I A Psycho.” Photo by Richard Amery
The show was in full throes of chaos, as by the time I arrived, Swollen Members’ member Madchild had a good sized audience already frothing in front of the stage, arms waving in the air and jumping up and down to ear blistering beats shaking the entire room.

Some of them shouted along with the lyrics to several tracks from Madchild’s new CD “Dope Sick,” like one of the show‘s (and Cd’s) highlight “Dickhead,” some of his older solo tracks as well as a couple Swollen Members numbers.

Some of the audience threw a few punches as security leaped into the swarming crowd and escorted the instigators from the building.

The scrapes didn’t go unnoticed by Madchild, who stopped the show briefly to watch and comment, “a fight, well I’m a good  guy now, I’ve got a girlfriend” before getting them to chant “f--k the mainstream.”

He thanked the audience for supporting him by buying his CDs and merch.

Then Tech N9ne took the stage with a balls to the wall, with ear blistering volume as his words fell like bullets from his machine gun delivery. I couldn’t really hear anything as the beat drowned out pretty much everything and were lost in reverb soaked vocals.

His best known song “Am I A Psycho,” was a highlight of the show which scorched the air above the commotion in front of the stage.
