A whole lot of rap and roots in Lethbridge this week

After a hectic week due to Arts Days related activities, this week won’t be any slower.

It is a good one for not only folk and roots music, but hip hop and jazz shows as well. Cypress Hill‘s B Real is in the house at Essies , Oct. 5. Local rappers Boe Zahorejko and Farren Harding plus Cash Bradshaw and J Thaddeus, F-Bomb, Sin Sane, Strong V, $truck and Spartans will also be performing will be heating up the stage beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at Essies as well as Mac’s stores in Fort Macleod, uplands, london Road, Columbia and highlands. Tickets cost $40

Hip hop and jazz music will meet head to head at the Mix Lounge in Ric’s Grill, for the Jazz and Poetry festival, Friday, Oct. 5. Gordon Leigh  and the Naked Ear will be performing as well as local hip hop artists. The Naked Ear, including Gordon Leigh on horns and keyboard, drummer Ken Kossman, pianist Ray Ross and bassist Dana  Beauchemin, will be playing jazz music to the rap/poetry of Furious D. But first, poet Christa Coce will perform, followed by two shows by Furious D and the Naked Ear. Admission is five dollars at the door. for the show which will begin at 8 p.m.

Of course there is a lot of folk and roots this week. Some of the highlights are Shred Kelly, who return to the Slice, Oct. 5 and the Sumner Brothers who play the Slice Oct. 3.

There is also an excellent blues/ rock/ punk show at the Slice, Oct. 4 with the pack A.D. and special guests Smokestack Jacks.

 For more of a rock show, check out Calgary rock band Go For the Eyes who play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 4 and Oct. 5.

 For classic rock fans, Average Joes brings in Eagles tribute Hotel California, Oct. 7. They play Oct. 7 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20.
