The Slice was still going strong, Oct. 27 by the time I arrived, unfortunately having missed July Talk and Renny Wilson. But I caught Jesse Northey and the Dandelions midway through their tribute to ’90s experimental rock band the FlaminJesse Northey and the Dandelions play the Flaming Lips.  I never really listened to the Flaming Lips in the ’90s, but as far as I could tell Northey and company were hitting all of the high notes pretty closely as well as keyboards and layered guitar sounds, which is pretty similar to what Northey and company usually do.

Northey and Tyler Stewart both played keyboards on a song as drummer Nick Vederes took over on guitar.

They were having fun and dressed for the occasion. While the music was a little too mellow for my taste, especially after having my ears blown away by Matt Mays, it was enjoyable and eventually had much of the packed house on their feet, especially when they picked up the tempo.
