Secretman bring the funk and the jazz

E-mail Print PDF

It’s no secret that bassist Kurt Ciesla’s day job is playing bass with Corb Lund. However, what may not be so secret is the fact he can Blue Lucudus singer J.P Lorge songs with Secretman. Photo by Richard Amerybring the funk and the noise as he did Nov. 3 with Secretman, an allstar jazz/ funk band including Brad Brouwer on drums. The band  included  Ryan Timoffee - keyboard;Kurt Ciesla - bass (Corb Lund Band) Dean Faulkner - guitar; Brad Brouwer - drums.

They also welcomed Blue Locutus singer J.P Lorge to sing a  few songs which left the crowd calling for more.

While the show was billed as having to do with Petrified Space Music for  The Zombie, Apocalypse, which is why most of the cast from the Evil Dead the Musical cast decided to show up, it really didn’t have to do with any of those things other than Lorge's  encore, who sang a song about cosmic space zombies.

The tight band improvised lick upon lick and laid down an addictive groove which had a few toes tapping.

Ryan Timoffee's keyboards and organ were a definite highlight of the set, setting down the backbone of most of the music.

After Lorge left the stage, the band took a break, but they returned to make beautiful, instrumental experimental jazz tinged funk music.
