“I took four months off to go on a trip down south to California and Mexico and wrote a whole new album,” enthused Peck from in the middle of the Fraser Valley, just beginning a new western Canadian tour with her band the Showdown which brings her back to the Slice in Lethbridge, Feb. 28.

The new music is an evolution of Miss Quincy and the Showdown’s energetic live show.

“My roots are country roots and blues, but the new music is a little bit bigger,  a little bit louder and a little bit more raunchy,” she said.
“We’ve been touring for eight months solid, so I had a lot of guitar riffs and some lyrics and starts for songs. Now we’re arranging them,” she said.

“It is definitely something that comes from playing a lot, and a lot of it came from jams we did on stage,“ she continued adding she did all of the songwriting.
“But the arranging process is the really fun part,” she continued.
They  will complete this western Canadian tour then tour Europe for two months before  returning home to work on a new CD.

“We’ve a got a day off , then we’re in the studio with Matt Rogers the guitarist and producer of  (Vancouver blues duo) The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer,” she said adding they have been playing several show with the duo.
She said it is important to keep playing.
We don’t make any money when we’re not playing,” she said, promising another energetic show.
“It is a mix of old and new music,” she said.

“The show is pretty high energy,” she said adding she is looking forward to being back at the Slice.
“It’s a huge stage and  they have a good sound system,” she said.

Miss Quincy takes the stage at the Slice at 9 p.m., Feb. 10. There is a $10 cover.
