Billy the Kid tickles the ivories

E-mail Print PDF

A ‘small but fierce’ crowd enjoyed a solo performance of  folk and pop from Vancouver musician Billy The Kid at the Slice, Jan. 25.
I arrived mid set as she was finishing up some folk and pop on the guitar. Dressed in a leather jacket and cap pulled low over her eyes, sans the trademark glasses, Billy the Kid whose real name is Billy the Kid on piano. Photo by Richard AmeryBilly Pettinger, grinned ear to ear and cracked jokes with the  audience, who laughed appreciatively.

But she blew them  away when she settled her tiny frame behind a keyboard and tickled those ivories with beauty and precision.

She played some beautiful piano including turning an old  punk song from her band Billy and the Lost Boys into a beautiful piano piece.

One of her other highlights was  a song about working called “I’m Just Trying To Get By.”
