Lieutenant Governor's awards feature live performances

 A highlight of the SOAR Emerging artists festival this week will be the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards, taking place, June 6 at the Yates Theatre.
 The 90 minute program will be followed by dinner at the Lethbridge Lodge.


However, if you just want to see a show featuring young Lethbridge artists.

“ We’d like to fill the venues,” said Allied Arts Council communications coordinator  Ashley Markus, adding there are 100 tickets left for the performance, which begins at 6 p.m.

The theme of the night is “ Fluidity” so  Lethbridge artists, plus Edmonton R and B/ jazz singer songwriter Nuela Charles have designed performances based on the theme.
 Running throughout  the evening will be a performance piece written by director  and a former New West Theatre general manager and artistic director Jeremy Mason with Camille Pavlenko and Cari Russell-Mason.


 Their piece, entitled Mitera Boreas follows the exploits of characters Tate and Shu born into a world of wind and wonder who seek their mother. It explores the themes of wind, struggle and family.


 Lethbridge pianist Jesse Plessis will be performing at the beginning of the night.

There will be a video profile of  Distinguished Artist Award Recipient , Toronto puppeteer and actor Ronnie Burkett, a performance of  “They Shoot Buffalo, Don’t They, by Troy Emery Twigg, a video profile of Distinguished Artist Award recipient, Calgary based  soprano Frances Ginzer, Calgary rapper Transit and  a video of Distinguished Artist Award recipient, Demmitt, Alberta based artist Peter von Tiesenhausen.


“We’re trying to provide a pretty diverse evening of entertainment,” Markus summarized.
