Okay Mann better than okay with original country rock

E-mail Print PDF

Alberta based alt country rock band Okay Mann were better than okay at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Saturday, March 11.

I missed Tyson Ray Borsboom’s opening set but arrived in time for an exuberant, energetic set of country tinged rock and roll  from Calgary quartet Okay Mann, which was reminiscent of Jason Isbel and the 400 unit.

There was a lot of  Jason Isbel and a touch of Blue Rodeo and some Leeroy Stagger and all exceptional.

Frontman Katlin Mathison switched to acoustic guitar mid-set and turned things down a touch, though not much.

“Ring Road” was a highlight as was “Hold My Head Tonight,” which featured some deft finger-picking.

They ended with a couple songs inspired by Mathison’s ex including “Over This” and When you Go,” which also featured some fine finger-picking.

They ended on an upbeat note.
