Lily Fawn to be a highlight at South Country Fair and the Slice

If you saw and loved the Hank and Lily Show at the South Country Fair last year or at Henotic during Halloween, it might have piqued your curiosity about what these two characters were like before they met each other.
So with that in mind, both of them put out solo albums  to explain their characters’ back stories.Lily Fawn learned ukulele for her new solo CD. Photo by Richard Amery

“Both Hank and I put out solo albums like the members of Kiss did. I did Lily’s Lullabies: Brightest, Darkest,” sighs Lily Fawn over the phone from Victoria, en route to her day job as a home care worker.
“ The Hank And Lily albums all come with comics. My solo CD comes with a hard cover fairy tale story.”

She had so much fun at last year’s South Country Fair, that she couldn’t wait to perform again. She is playing at  1:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
“It was such an amazing experience last year, I couldn’t wait to come back, so when they said they were looking for performers, I said  ‘hey, look at me, I ’ve  got something new,” she enthuses adding she remembers the heat last year and being able to go in the river.

“I’m a forest creature, so I’m not used to that kind of heat. And I don’t swim in  a fast moving river, but I went into the river and there was always someone to help me when I started to float away,” she chirps adding she enjoyed creating the solo CD and the fairy tale.

“It’s been a really great experience. Because I don’t play instruments with chords — I’m a forest creature. I play the musical saw, trumpet, flute and drums. I learned how to play the ukulele. And I asked my friend Susan Farmer, who is a classically trained pianist for help,” continues Lily Fawn, who is bringing  Farmer, violinist Jessica Slavik, drummer Matty Skilling (from a band called Run Chico Run) plus boyfriend and Meatdraw bandmate Mario Bozenich ( who also sometimes performs in the Hank and Lily Show as Cecil the Weasel)  to play guitar on this tour.

“All of them have government jobs, so it is really asking a lot to ask them to go on tour with me because I can’t afford to pay them a lot. But I told them about the sunshine and the river and the great hospitality and they were all very excited about the festival,” she continues.

“When people think of solo, they think of singer/songwriters. Hank and I play party, pop songs. But my lullabies are slower. There’s a lot of stories in the music. I can’t wait to see what people think of them,” she continues adding shows in support of the  solo CD  are usually at night which allows her the incorporate a video element to it, though she doesn’t know if that will work  during the day.

“It’s not depressing at all. The music has love stories and  the fairy tale element to it,” she says adding she is looking forward to seeing Chad Van Gaalen perform.
“I hope we can work together in the future. I’ll be right there  in the front row shoving my CD down his pants,” she giggles.

Lily Fawn will also be playing the Slice, July 19 with her band, Lily Fawn’s Brightest Dark Lullaby band featuring Marco Bozenich on guitar who is also in the band Meatdraw with Lily.
