The LCBS Gold Band Explores The Planets!
Lethbridge, AB: The Lethbridge Community Gold Band welcomes local trumpeters Don Robb and Dr. Josh Davies as the guest artists for the upcoming annual spring concert on Saturday, April 18. The concert, entitled “The Planets” will be conducted by Ken Rogers, and guest conductor Karly Lewis, and will be held at the College Drive Community Church at 7:30pm.
Robb and Davies will be joining the Lethbridge Community Gold Band for a masterful performance of the colourfully orchestrated Mystic Warriors. Composer Allen Vizzutti, himself a virtuoso trumpeter, explains the conception of the work: “The work is based on the concept of Ulysses’ epic Odyssey including the haunting voices of the Sirens and battles with one-eyed beasts. The soaring solo trumpet voices are equally important in this composition. Both parts have extended range, advanced technical demands and significant solo passages.”
Included in the program is Gustav Holst’s most popular work The Planets; a 7-movement suite each named after a planet in our Solar System. Movements from the suite can be heard in a number of movies, television shows, commercials and is widely popular. Don’t miss the Lethbridge Community Gold Band perform this magnificent work.
Other selections performed at the concert are all inspired by the science and fantasy of space.
This family-friendly concert will be presented at College Drive Community Church.

LETHBRIDGE COMMUNITY GOLD BAND
The Gold Band was founded in 1987 under conductor emeritus Robert Cook. Since that beginning, the band has performed all over Southern Alberta. It is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for its commitment to providing music learning and performance opportunities.
The band has been active in commissioning and premiering compositions by Howard Cable, Elizabeth Rohm and David Squires. This band was the original founding band. While personnel have changed over the years, it is the Gold Band that has taken on a role of pursuing more demanding music, soloist performances and more advanced literature. Musicians in this band tend to be more interested in more challenging music.
