Vancouver based, B.C. born and raised Jaclyn Guillou (pronounced Ghee-you), is an award winning jazz vocalist who performs original music and jazz standards. Her soon to be released album, To The City, has a sound that is most comparable with crossover artists and female jazz singer-songwriters such as Melody Gardot and Madeleine Peyroux. With her international band: New York vibraphonist Tom Beckham, Portland pianist Randy Porter, Vancouver bassist Michael Rush and Toronto/Vancouver drummer Joe Poole she has delighted audiences everywhere. Her compositional skills include interesting and unusual arrangements of standards that are reminiscent of Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan and Nancy King. Her influences range from the queen of the blues Dinah Washington, passionate Diane Reeves, folk singer-songwriter Martin Sexton and Brazilian legend Elis Regina. This young twenty-something artist strives to merge the sound of deep jazz roots and hip modern sounds to appeal to music lovers of all sorts.

She has been the recipient of a CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award from the 2009 Vancouver International Jazz Festival, was chosen as top 10 on the Province Playlist during the Olympics, was a feature act in the 2009/2010 Best of BC music series, and has toured in BC’s most recognized jazz clubs and festivals with sold out shows at Cellar Jazz Club, Hermann’s Jazz Club, Vernon Jazz Club, Jazz Vespers Vancouver and the 25th Anniversary 2010 Vancouver International Jazz Festival. She has an upcoming CD Release and tour in April, 2011 of her debut studio album, To The City. The album features seven original songs performed with her quintet and special guest artists Denzal Sinclaire, Bruno Hubert, Evan Arntzen, Rod Murray and Chris Davis. Previous discography includes a studio EP duo album entitled Por Ejemplo and two live albums: Live at The Rotary Centre For The Arts and Live at The Firehall Centre For The Arts.

As a vocalist, composer and bandleader Guillou brings a unique style of songwriting to the jazz idiom. This twenty-something Vancouver artist unites jazz form and structure with deep sensible lyrics and which visit personal stories that incorporate texture and complex harmony. Guillou yields creative vocal flexibility and has become well known for her strong sense of rhythmic phrasing, colorful tone and distinct articulation. A dynamic and versatile performer singing in 4 different languages, Guillou brings a wide selection of original tunes and jazz standards to her diverse repertoire. Her voice is raw and emotional and it lingers long after the last note.
