Jory
Kinjo http://www.myspace.com/jorykinjo started playing the bass when he was about 14 because his older
brother had already picked up the guitar and they wanted to play
together. "I joined a band in school and went from there. I got into
jazz and played a lot of upright bass, when my upright broke - I got
into the electric again-and it's been my
main thing since. My old bass teacher got me into a lot of old funk,
soul, blues and jazz. So I listened to Tower of Power, P-Funk, Chick
Corea, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Medeski, Martin & Wood. The
bass players I admire and idolize include Jaco Pastorious, Rocco
Prestia, Charles Mingus, Stanley Clark and Dave Holland."
