Canada’s hardest working blues rock act, Ross Neilsen, does it right. Taking strong, timeless material to the place that matters. The People. Six Years, over 1000 shows and half a million Kilometers traveled. In a time of corporate cookie cutter music this is the return to real. Proving hard work pays off Ross Neilsen has been honoured with a nomination for Best New Artist at The Maple Blues Awards in 2010, two Rising Star nominations from CBC, back to back Blues Album of the Year nominations from the East Coast Music Association and more recently Ross won Best Blues Recording for Redemption at the 2010 MusicNB awards. Ross Neilsen is the real, old school kind of artist. Write. Tour. Record. Tour. Repeat.

Ross Neilsen’s latest studio recording, Redemption, was released in the spring of 2010. Recorded at the famed Zebra Ranch Studio in Mississippi.

The voyage to recording Redemption was an epic one, with Neilsen and his band deciding to record with famed musician and producer Jim Dickinson (North Mississippi All starss, Screaming Jay Hawkins, John Hiatt, Ry Cooder), at his Zebra Ranch in Northern Mississippi. Dickinson was impressed with the demos he had heard and was eager to work on the new recording. The stage was set and the plans were made for Ross Neilsen to make the trip of a lifetime, however a wrench was thrown in to the wheels. In August 2009 Jim Dickinson passed away, leaving the band shattered and unsure of the next step. Within hours, Jim Dickinson’s family contacted Neilsen to step in and take over production; this time in the chair would be Cody Dickinson, three-time Grammy nominated producer and drummer for North Mississippi All-Stars. The recording would be back on.

Ineligible for Canadian Funding due to the project taking place stateside, the band started unique fundraising project – a bottle drive. What would seem to be the entire community in the New Brunswick region got involved by saving their empties for Neilsen to collect and use the refund for their expenses. “It became something even more than just fundraising. I met so many people; some of them already fans and some of them had never heard of us but wanted to help us live our dreams. The feeling of our community getting behind us like that was heavy.” Said Neilsen.

Miss Quincy's Got a Smokin' New Album
and a Hot New Band

Like The Devil Does, Miss Quincy's second full length album is a moody collection of songs filled with dirty guitar licks, sweet gospel harmonies, swampy grooves, and stories of old time deal breakers. Miss Quincy and producer, Canadian roots & blues legend Tim Williams, set out to create an album with the gritty sound of tube amps, a tight rhythm section, and a band playing live-off-the-floor. Good musicians playing good music, it's the oldest trick in the book. A natural evolution from her debut album Your Mama Don’t Like Me (Folk/Traditional Recording of the Year, 2011 BC Indie Awards), this new record takes Miss Quincy's signature vocal prowess, her love affair with the electric guitar, and songwriting skills into new-found down and dirty territory. Like The Devil Does is both 4am at the whorehouse and the Sunday morning after.

This year also marks the debut of Miss Quincy’s smokin' new band The Showdown. Featuring upright bass and drums, these ladies are armed with attitude, killer musicianship, and are without a doubt the hottest all-girl rhythm section around. Miss Quincy doesn't fit the classic girl singer/songwriter mold and The Showdown isn't your average all-girl band. You won’t find them singing pretty pages out of their diaries, instead you’ll find them getting down and rocking out with raunchy electric roots & blues. Unsuspecting audience members may find themselves suddenly shaking it on the dance floor, shouting out inappropriate comments, and buying the ladies rounds of drinks. Miss Quincy & The Showdown have never played a boring show and never intend to.

Coming together from the far reaches of BC and Alberta, the band currently calls the road its home. Hitting the highway hard for 8 months of solid touring this year, The Showdown will be joining Miss Quincy for her 3rd tour of the UK and Europe as well as a cross-Canada album release tour that will include many appearances on summer festival stages (Sweetwater 905, Freedom Fest, South Country Fair, ArtsWells, Trout Forest Music Festival, Robson Valley Music Festival, and Music on the Mountain).
