Experimenting with unconventional chord structures, spine-tingling
soundscapes, and imaginative lyrical content, Boreal Sons released their
debut EP “Whom Thunder Hath Made Greater” in 2010—inspired in part by
themes in John Milton’s Paradise Lost. While juggling full-time
University commitments for the past 2 years, members Schultz, McLean,
and Acheson have still found time to tour B.C. and Alberta with folk-pop artist Jordan Klassen, and Victoria folk icon Aidan Knight.
In 2011, Boreal Sons set to work on their sophomore release “Bedtime
Briar”—a 17 minute conceptual EP inspired by the imaginary dream-life of
a cherished family golden retriever. This most recent material explores
questions of consciousness and identity as Boreal Sons weave a network
of textured sound that invites listeners into a swiftly-changing
landscape wrought with both calm ambience and turbulent power.
As of
summer 2012, members of Boreal Sons have finished their respective
University programs, added dynamic guitar player Logan Gabert to their
ranks, and already invested hundreds of hours into recording new
material. Currently, they are working with acclaimed Canadian producer
Jonathan Anderson to record their first LP, set for release in 2013.
