Fort Macleod, Alberta – Fans of the Cape Breton raised singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist and producer J.P. Cormier are in for a musical treat when he steps onto the Empress Theatre stage next month.

Multiple award-winning Cormier along with Adrien AuCoin on bass and vocals present this legendary Canadian’s folk/bluegrass/Celtic style music on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21 at 7:30 pm in Fort Macleod.

Cormier long respected as master of stringed instruments, discovered his musical passion at the tender age of five when he began to teach himself guitar.  By age nine he won a guitar competition against other musicians three times his age.  By his mid-teens he was able to play almost every stringed instrument he picked up.  By age 16, he’d recorded his first bluegrass instrumental album.

Subsequently, he took to the U.S. festival circuit performing for anyone who’d listen.  Soon after he relocated to the United States and found work as a session musician, a position he remained in for 10 years.   Also during his time in the U.S. he graced the famous Grand Ole Opry stage more than 20 times performing with such legendary artists as Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Charlie Louvin and Marty Stuart.

Today, Cormier’s vast talent has left him with a large and loyal fan-base around the globe.  30 years of touring, 14 solo albums released since 1995, 12 East Coast Music Awards, A JUNO nomination, two #1 hits on European country music stations and more awards and accomplishments than can be counted.  This master of the strings, now a resident of Sydney, NS not only plays the guitar, but has played the fiddle, twelve string guitar, upright bass, banjo, mandolin, drums, percussion, synthesizer, cello, tenor banjo and piano on his albums.  His many talents are sure to leave a lasting impression on the Empress audience in February.

Somewhere in the Back of My Heart Cormier’s latest album released in 2012, tells the tale of love, loss, joy and remembrance, songs written from his own personal experiences.  Cormier will perform these songs and more along with Adrien AuCoin, a bass player from Cheticamp, Nova Scotia who first performed with Cormier back in 1997.  AuCoin has played with such bands as Blou, Grand Dérangement and Marcella Richard.

Single tickets available now for both evenings, are $32 each and can be purchased online at www.empresstheatre.ab.ca or by calling 1-800-540-9229 or 403-553-4404.
