Shary Boyle & Christine Fellows

Southminster United Church
1011- 4 Ave S
$25 | 20 for members

Visual artist Shary Boyle and songwriter Christine Fellows have been collaborating since 2005, presenting wildly imaginative performances from Paris, France to the Canadian Arctic. Their performances weave together vivid narratives revealed through Boyle's stunning, hand-animated artwork created and projected on an old-fashioned overhead projector, and Fellows' intricately detailed songs and direct vocals, backed alternatively by keyboard and ukulele.

Spell to Bring Lost Creatures Home invites audiences on a mysterious, immersive journey through a richly described visual and aural landscape. Part ritual and part myth, Boyle and Fellows use sound, lyric, image and light to tell stories that reconnect us with a sense of shared history and common humanity. This handcrafted spectacle bravely explores distance and alienation, childhood and aging, imagination and resilience in the face of a changing, challenging landscape.

Shary Boyle is a visual artist whose practice includes drawing, painting, sculpture and performance. In 2008, Boyle's History of Light opened at SAAG exploring the performative aspect of her practice and featured a selection of her overhead projection works. Boyle has had many important solo exhibitions including Flesh and Blood at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2010, and Music for Silence at the 2013 Venice Biennale. Artistically, she has always had a profound connection to music; in addition to her work with Christine, she has performed with musical collaborators throughout the world, from the Olympia Theatre in Paris to the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

Christine Fellows is a songwriter, poet and avid interdisciplinary collaborator; in addition to her work with Shary, she often works with choreographers, filmmakers, theatre artists and musicians to create performance works, scores and spectacles. In 2014, she launched Burning Daylight, her sixth critically acclaimed solo album and first poetry collection (ARP Books). Fellows and Boyle' first charmed southern Alberta in 2008 with their collaborative performance Shadow Songs.

Funding assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and the City of Lethbridge.
