Beginning with the playful, yet delicate, we open with Rossini‘s Overture to The Barber of Seville. Englishman Gordon Jacob‘s Old Wine in New Bottles is fun and spirited, and comprises eight British folk songs. Wagner‘s slow yet blissful Siegfried Idyll rounds out the first half; the composer makes full use of the wind section.
In the second half, we are proud to present the 2015 LSO Young Artist, whose enthralling and passionate live audition astounded the judges and audience at the competition finals in April. The youthful violinist will be sure to excite and captivate audiences with her performance of Niccolo Paganini‘s technically brilliant piece, Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 6 with the Orchestra. The Italian composer, who was famously secretive about his compositions, shows his talent in three sublime movements.
